- Group sharing — when you choose to share writings with a writing group, other group members can view your shared content and comments

- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of the transaction
5. Data Storage and Security
5.1 Storage
Your data is stored on secure servers with appropriate access controls and backup procedures.
5.2 Encryption
- In transit — all data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted using TLS/SSL
- Passwords — user passwords are encrypted and are never stored in plain text
- Payment data — credit card information is processed and stored exclusively by Stripe; we never have access to your full card number
5.3 Security Measures
We implement industry-standard security measures including two-factor authentication (2FA). However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Visibility and Sharing Controls
You control the visibility of your content:
- Private (default) — all writings are private by default and visible only to you
- Group sharing — you may explicitly share specific writings with writing groups you belong to
- Comments — comments you post in groups are visible to other group members
You can change sharing settings or remove shared content at any time.
7. Cookies and Tracking
7.1 Cookies
We use cookies for the following purposes:
- Session management — a session cookie (
user_session) keeps you signed in
- Preferences — cookies and sessionStorage may store your theme, project filter, and other display preferences
7.2 What We Do Not Use
We do not use third-party advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or analytics services such as Google Analytics. We do not participate in cross-site tracking or ad networks.
8. Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access — you can view your personal information through the Settings page at any time
- Correction — you can update your name, display name, email, and other profile information through the Settings page
- Deletion — you can delete your account and all associated data through the Settings page. Upon deletion, your data will be permanently removed within 30 days, subject to our backup retention schedule
- Data portability — you can download your writings in multiple formats (text, Word, HTML, Markdown, PDF, RTF) through the Writings page
- Opt out of communications — you can disable optional notifications at any time through the Notifications and Settings pages

9. Data Retention
- Active accounts — we retain your data for as long as your account is active
- Account deletion — when you delete your account, your personal data and content are permanently removed within 30 days. Backup copies may persist for up to 90 days before being purged
- Inactive accounts (Free Tier) — accounts with no activity for 180 days may be flagged for deletion. We will attempt to notify you by email before taking action
- Legal obligations — we may retain certain data as required by law, such as billing records
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will promptly delete that information. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@writerhabits.com.
11. International Users
The Service is operated from the United States. If you are accessing the Service from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
